Women’s Only Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Class: Empowerment Through Self-Defense

A self-defense focused Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class designed exclusively for women, aiming to build confidence, improve physical fitness, and enhance self-protection skills.

The Vilanova BJJ Women’s Only Class is specially tailored for women’s self-defense needs and interests. Our class aims to provide a supportive and encouraging environment, focusing on building self-confidence and a sense of community. The class caters to various skill levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners, with the primary goals of mastering fundamental techniques, improving awareness, and developing physical fitness.

Age Group: 13+

Schedule: Saturday 9:30am to 10:30am

Our class will focus on:

  1. Self-Defense: Practicing techniques effective in real-life situations while challenging and overcoming fears. 
  2. Conditioning: Enhancing strength, flexibility, and overall physical fitness. 
  3. Community Building: Creating a supportive and empowering network of strong women. 
  4. Skill Development: Establishing a strong foundation and advancing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Class Structure

  1. Warm-Up (10 minutes)
  • Light stretching
  • Mobility exercises
  • Conditioning drills 
  1. Technique Instruction (15 minutes)
  • Demonstration of two to three self-defense techniques
  • Partner practice of each technique, with personal guidance from the instructor 
  1. Drilling & Active Practice (15 minutes)
  • Application of learned techniques in controlled scenarios
  • Focus on specific self-defense situations 
  1. Drilling or Sparring (Optional, 15 minutes)
  • Supervised rolling sessions, focusing on implementing techniques learned in class 
  1. Cool Down (5 minutes)
  • Light stretching and relaxation exercises
  • Class discussion and sharing of personal experiences and achievements

Equipment and Techniques

Students are required to wear comfortable athletic clothing.

Our class will cover essential Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques, including:

  1. Escapes and defense against common attacks (e.g., chokes, holds, and grabs) 
  2. Offensive techniques, such as sweeps, takedowns, and submissions 
  3. Ground fighting and control positions 
  4. Position transitions and improvements

To create a welcoming and comfortable environment for our students, we will:

  1. Offer a clean and safe training space 
  2. Provide a judgment-free environment, celebrating all achievements, big or small 
  3. Encourage open communication and active listening 
  4. Foster camaraderie through team-building exercises and group activities 
  5. Ensure individual attention and personalized guidance from the instructor
